Il fungo Agaricus blazei Murrill (ABM), denominato anche HIMEMATSUTAKE per il suo buon gusto,è nativo della foresta pluviale brasiliana ma oggi è coltivato anche in diversi paesi asiatici. Risale a soli 40anni fa circa la scoperta in Brasile degli effetti positivi dell’ABM sulla salute dell’uomo. L'ABM viene menzionato per la prima volta nel 1947 da W.A. MURRILL, poi localizzato nel 1960 nella foresta fluviale in Brasile, dove si notò un’eccellente stato di salute e longevità dei nativi della regione. Nel 1965 dei campioni di fungo vennero portati in Giappone presso l’istituto di Ricerca Micologica e dopo 10 anni di lavoro il dottor Iwade riuscì finalmente a coltivare artificialmente il fungo. L’ABM contiene la concentrazione maggiore di B-glucani,zuccheri a lunga catena che aiutano e regolano il sistema immunitario.
