E' una selezione di brassica o crocifera precoce con palla sferica, voluminosa, fusto eretto e foglie verde scuro, grandi, gibbose e bollose, con grosse nervature.
Rispetto al cavolo cappuccio la boccia si forma con le foglie interne, raccolte, meno embricate tra loro, di color giallastro, mentre le foglie esterne sono molto aperte e rivolte verso l’esterno più scure. Il periodo di semina - esclusivamente in semenzaio - inizia a Maggio e termina a Luglio; la profondità d’impianto è di 4 - 5 mm.
Il trapianto in pieno campo si esegue dopo 40 gg., quando le piante hanno un altezza di circa 20 cm; le distanze definitive saranno di 60 cm. tra fila e fila e di 40-50 cm. sulla fila. La semente impiega circa 6 - 10 gg. per germinare.
Il raccolto può già iniziare ad Ottobre e terminare a Dicembre. Dal momento della semina al raccolto il ciclo può variare da un minimo di 100 ad un massimo di 150 gg.
