Il vinometro è uno strumento utilizzato per determinare la gradazione alcolica del vino.
E’ realizzato in vetro, è costituito da un tubo capillare.
Il suo funzionamento è basato sulla diversa forza capillare che il vino esercita su un piccolo forellino a seconda del suo contenuto alcolico.
Permette di evitare errori che possono derivare dalla difficoltà dell'affioramento in apparecchi consimili.
Il vinometro è uno strumento "empirico" usato per misurare la percentuale di alcol etilico nel vino secco.
Si deve versare il vino secco (senza residuo zuccherino) e ben filtrato nell'imbuto apposito e lo si rovescia, per capillarità il vino salirà lungo la scala graduata dove si effettuerà la lettura della % di alcool nel vino.
