Il miele di manuka IAA® 10+ contiene un minimo di 263 mg / kg di MGO. Il prof. Peter Molan dell'Università di Waikato in Nuova Zelanda, a seguito di numerosi studi, ha messo in evidenza che alcuni mieli di Manuka possiedono un'attività supplementare non dovuta al perossido di idrogeno e che mantiene la sua efficacia in vivo: l'attività antibatterica non perossidica. Gli indici UMF® (Unique Manuka Factor) e IAA® (Indice Activitée Antibacterique/ Indice Attività Antibatterica) misurano l'attività non perossidica unica del miele di Manuka, attraverso analisi in laboratorio di ogni lotto rispetto all'attività su un batterio antibiotico resistente: lo stafilococco dorato (Staphylococcus aureus).
