Il miele di manuka IAA® 10+ contiene un minimo di 263 mg / kg di MGO. Il prof. Peter Molan dell'Università di Waikato in Nuova Zelanda, a seguito di numerosi studi, ha messo in evidenza che alcuni mieli di Manuka possiedono un'attività supplementare non dovuta al perossido di idrogeno e che mantiene la sua efficacia in vivo: l'attività antibatterica non perossidica.
